New Symantec research reveals consumers make up 57 percent of ransomware victims. Key findings include: The average ransom demanded by attackers jumped to US $679, up from $294 at the end of 2015. The majority of ransomware variants are designed to attack Windows computers and ordinary home users continue to be one of the biggest victim groups. Employees at organizations make up 43 percent of ransomware victims, thanks to a growing number of gangs targeting large organizations with similar techniques and tools as used by cyberespionage/APT-type attackers.
Symantec’s consumer security division, Norton provided tips which end users can follow to stay safe. Use strong passwords, be cautious on social media, know what you’re sharing, use multilayered security were some of the tips given.
