Honeywell received the Dominic de Sousa Award for Innovation for a new approach to temperature control that helped a mosque save 37 percent* on its energy usage.

The 6th Annual Climate Control Middle East Awards, which recognizes innovation excellence in the field of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR), was held in Dubai last month under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Infrastructure Development, and was presided over by the ministry’s undersecretary, Her Excellency Zahra Salman Al Aboodi.

The award-winning product, Honeywell’s VisionPRO 8000 Mosque Thermostat, helped Al Tawba Mosque in Sharjah achieve more than one-third energy savings over the course of a six month pilot project. The thermostat is designed with a feature that uses location coordinates to calculate prayer times and automatically adjust temperatures five times per day, according to peak building utilization. It was piloted between August 2015 and January 2016, and the findings have been endorsed by the Sharjah government’s Department of Islamic Affairs, which oversees mosques in the emirate.

Dilip Sinha, GM for Honeywell’s Environmental and Energy Solutions in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META), added: “We are delighted to have been recognized by our industry peers with this award because it underscores our commitment to making the region’s buildings greener, safer and more productive. This innovative technology delivers real energy and cost savings without sacrificing comfort, which is a defining trait of Honeywell’s extensive environmental and energy solutions product portfolio.”
