“Comprehensive overview of user networks, managing multiple vendor devices with different protocols remains the few complexities & challenges in infrastructure management. But this has considerably reduced, thanks to the DCIM software and its market acceptance.”
What challenges do you see in the Data Centre Infrastructure Management? What are the key characteristics of a scalable, flexible and agile data center?
However, the expectations on the DCIM varies from client to client and meeting the specific needs or adapting the features to meet them remains the single biggest challenge.
A scalable, flexible and agile data centre should be able to cater to the client needs as and when it is required, or at a short notice. Following a modular approach in data centres really helps in achieving this objective, where we see an increasing number of people adopting this approach, to be flexible and to be ready on demand.
How do you see the future of cloud infrastructure market in the region?
Rittal’s 40-foot Balanced Cloud Center (BCC) container launched early this year was designed and developed considering the growing market for cloud infrastructure. Balanced Cloud Center (BCC) container is a ready-to-use, turnkey cloud data centre with IT racks, climate control technology and power supply from Rittal and cloud infrastructure from iNNOVO Cloud, as well as the associated OpenStack cloud management software allow companies to build different cloud models quickly. The offer ranges from a private cloud, which is operated on-site by the customer with proven and secure components including servers, storage and network systems (‘on-premises’), to the external private cloud (‘off-premises’) run by a cloud provider from a cloud park, for example. The advantages of the system are its short-term availability, its ‘pay-as-you-go’ model, and the scalability of the system.
Rittal has taken it one step ahead by offering a hosting facility for such cloud ready containers in the Lefdal Mine Data Center in Norway
With the region still going through the doldrums of oil prices and currency fluctuations, what growth are you seeing for the power solutions market in the region?
For any organisation, its business continuity depends on uninterrupted power and their resilience towards a power interruption. It’s not just the source of power, but its efficient distribution too matters a lot. With so much of emphasis on power & its distribution for business continuity, we continue to grow in this area unaffected by any challenges
Over the last 5 years, how have you seen this concept emerging? What are the demands of an agile data center?
The focus in data centers continues to be on modular & scalable UPS system. Having the flexibility to cater to growing power needs, on demand, continues to define the UPS selection in an agile data center. Reliability of the UPS & having a Decentralised Parallel Architecture (DPA) that avoids a single point of failure too weighs in heavily on the product selection.
How are you competing with the other power solutions in the market? How are you in sync with the OPEX savvy enterprises?
Opex consideration on power systems are on a rise owing to higher electricity bills, either due to higher production costs or due to a reduction on the government subsidies. Efficiencies of the UPS and its effective distribution gains significance. Centralised system to monitor power usage efficiencies too are gaining significance in data centers. Rittal’s high efficiency modular & scalable UPS with Decentralised Parallel Architecture and Switched PDU’s with bi-stable relays offers considerable savings on operational costs. An effective monitoring system from Rittal supports supervise the power consumption to facilitate better planning & control
