Immediately after the Turkish turmoil, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatens to boycott all of American electronics including Apple Inc.’s iPhone. This came as a result of Donald Trump isolating the Turkish economy.
Even though no government actions were taken on the boycotting process, he asked his citizens to buy local or Korean mobile phones, instead of American iPhones.
This decision was taken after US imposed a double tariff on Turkish steel and aluminium imports. This led to a currency crisis in Turkey as the value dropped on an all time low. Lira, which traded at 4.7 to the dollar a month ago, fell down to 6.4.
Another issue is also on US giving their sanctions on two Turkish ministers over the arrest of an American pastor who is charged with having links to terrorism.
Even though experts say that probably there will not be a major dent in US economic interest in regards to the threat of Erdogan, it shows the standoff over the fate of the America pastor held in Turkey.
