These trends are developing the technology within the data centres as faster storage is required so we are seeing the move to NVMe as part of U.2 on both client and enterprise devices, and DDR4 3200MHz DRAM.
With coronavirus came new and unexpected pain points for data centres, the demand for data was set to explode with 5G and Edge, but as the world moved to working from home in a very short space of time, this data explosion came at a pace that was very unexpected. The need to work from home has required a rapid deployment for both companies and data centres.
Data centres have seen a massive need for flexibility as they move from virtualised systems to Content Delivery Networks. As events have moved from the real world to virtual events, so data centres requirements differ as week.
Enterprise data centres have shown in the last few months that to survive they have to be flexible. Before coronavirus, 5G and Edge computing would have been the main drivers for the demand of data centres, the rapid deployment of working from home is still underway and we wait to see the long-term impacts this will have on data centres and us all.

Demand for data centre and cloud spending is increasing in the Middle East during the past few years which lead companies like Microsoft, Alibaba, Amazon Web Services and Oracle to open their own data centres in the Gulf region. We have also seen an increase in the amount of private data centres in the region, specifically in oil and gas, public sector and large corporate accounts.
Data centre technology must evolve: optimised storage capacity, faster servers, widespread use of hardware encryption and more effective compression.
