On 15th September, Global CIO Forum in association with Microland and Securonix organised a virtual summit on Beyond Ransomware – Best Practices for Smart Security Operations and to build Cyber Resilient Future.

In a ransomware attack, cyber extortionists deploy malicious software to infiltrate computer systems and encrypt data, holding it hostage until the victim pays a ransom. Ransomware can have an even bigger impact on an organisation than a data breach, but Gartner research estimates that more than 90% of ransomware attacks are preventable.

The Beyond Ransomware event was moderated by Arun Shankar, Editor, GEC Media Group with speakers Ravi Saxena, Head Customer Success – Middle East in Microland, Vasudev Surabhi, Director Cybersecurity in Microland, Bala Ramanan B AVP, Risk and Compliance in Microland and Augusto Barros, Vice-President Solutions Marketing in Securonix.

Here are the highlights of Beyond Ransomware event:

Ravi Saxena, Head Customer Success – Middle East at Microland

Ravi Saxena, Head Customer Success – Middle East, Microland started the session with a quick briefing of their global presence and focus on transformation led operations.

Vasudev Surabhi, Director Cybersecurity at Microland

Vasudev Surabhi, Director Cybersecurity at Microland explained the latest insights on the evolving nature of ransomware and challenges faced by CISOs by zero-day attacks.

Bala Ramanan B, AVP, Risk and Compliance at Microland

Bala Ramanan B, AVP, Risk and Compliance at Microland emphasised cyberattacks and their impact on every organisation and shared some ideas of how to deal with them.

Augusto Barros, Vice-President Solutions Marketing at Securonix

Augusto Barros, Vice-President Solutions Marketing at Securonix talked about how high profile attacks targeting critical national and government establishments are increased in the last few months and how to get rid of them.

Many organisations end up paying a major amount of money to their attackers, often through cyber-insurance protection, but the long-term effect is likely to be a greater number of ransomware attacks. Instead of building ransomware payments into the budget, organisations should focus on preparation and early mitigation. CISOs and security leaders can focus on ransomware response actions.

Beyond Ransomware virtual event was concluded with an interactive question and answer session.
