Geneva has proved to be popular among travellers from the GCC region. Geneva welcomed the highest number of travellers from the GCC compared to other cities in Switzerland. During the period from January to October 2019 more than 215,000 overnight stays were registered by GCC travellers in the city.
Thanks to its myriad offerings to all family members, the direct flight connections, and its international flair the second biggest city in Switzerland enjoys; Geneva is welcoming increasing numbers of travellers from this region year on year.
Geneva offers visitors one-of-a-kind experience in a natural setting unequalled anywhere else in the world. Travellers can enjoy skiing on the slopes of the Alps then head to do some serious shopping in the city on the same day. Due to Geneva’s location at the foot of the Alps it takes only an hour to go from the enchanting scenery of one of Europe’s largest lakes, Lake Geneva, to the summit of Mont-Blanc, the continent’s highest mountain.
Also, Geneva is an all year destination with diverse offerings and a calendar full of events for every month. For example; the light festival, Geneva Lux, happening from 24 January to 2 February 2020 will transform the dark winter nights to luminous and magical ones offering travellers everlasting memories.
Whether travellers are food lovers, or if they are looking for pampering, sporty activities or learning something new, they won’t be bored visiting Geneva. The city enjoys great cuisine and offers culinary experiences for all senses; indulging in a chocolate tour at one of the world’s famous chocolatiers or embarking on a romantic journey in a hot air balloon above the Alps and the Lake Geneva region while eating Swiss fondue will definitely be experiences to look out for.
Also, travellers are invited to attend a Horology workshop and immerse themselves in 500 years of luxury watchmaking history. For a more laid back vacation, tourists can enjoy the outstanding spa services the city offers or they can head to one of the world-class classical music performances with international performers if they seek a shot of culture.
“The GCC region is considered as one of the major markets for Geneva’s travel scene. The unique hospitality offerings, natural landscapes and bespoke shopping opportunities are all factors that help put the destination on top of many GCC travellers’ list,” says Franck Romanet, Market Manager GCC and India at Geneva Tourism and Conventions Foundation.
“Geneva speaks to all types of travellers, whether they prefer travelling with their families, friends or solo; the city meets every one’s expectations. The availability of a whole range of Arabic and halal food restaurants, Arabic speaking staff at many hotels and the understanding of cultural differences are among other factors that help Arab visitors feel at home while visiting Geneva,” Romanet added.
