Nurturing an ‘Employee Empowerment’ Culture

The advancement of technology does not vouch for the case that employee empowerment must be compromised at any step. Ashish Dass, President – Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA), 3i Infotech, articulates his thoughts on why establishing an organization on the foundation of employees’ trust and commitment should be more of a culture than a strategy.

We are living in a mobile world where every individual walks a mile per minute. In this scenario, organizations are always on the go to keep up to this pace.

2016 has stepped in and decision makers have once again put their best foot forward in developing strategies to cope with the rapid and emerging trends. There is no denial to the fact that the prime objective behind having a business strategy and continuously tracking the performances of the employees is to –sustain profits. But have you ever thought who are the backbones of a successful organization? The answer is— Employees.

The modern era is all about Marketing versus Innovation. Hence, organizations need to shift focus internally as well, by developing an employee centric strategy that focuses on their empowerment. We are progressing in terms of a technology transformation, but the pillars that would propel this transition are the employees themselves. It is the convincing skills & positioning of ‘self’ that benefit nowadays rather than the core product. Innovation automatically follows when an employee is empowered to take decisions. Of course, established brands have an edge; however it is all about the way things are sold. Sales professionals crack their heads on Marketing their own selves that eventually proves to be an add-on to their pitch. Finance professionals also are projecting smart scenarios to negotiate the best possible credit terms. Every employee, be it any department, is facing competition not just externally but internally too. It is the age of survival of the fittest within organizations, which is why Marketing & Innovation are playing a major role, the results of which are deeply dependent on employee empowerment.

When employees are ‘empowered’, they have the complete independence to take decisions which makes them more accountable in the long run. This creates a culture where employees begin to work not just for personal benefits but also towards organizational goals. At the end of the day, an organization is all about people & unless every employee is given the trust, there will always be a gap in their commitment. The commitment and dedication that an employee shows is directly proportional to the trust bestowed by the organization on the employee.

Inculcating an employee empowerment culture involves a lot of efforts from every leader’s end. Role clarity, team objectives, granting sufficient authority towards decision making, boosting confidence & employee morale are some techniques to build such an environment. Encouraging cross learning across the organization also brings out unimaginable creativity sometimes.

A business strategy is successful only if its implementers are strong, hence having an employee empowerment strategy is imperative to the success of any business strategy.
