Cloudflare the cloud connectivity company has launched Cloudflare Wallets and Cloudflare.Pay. These products not only provide a stable identity to the AI agents deployed on Cloudflare but also make it simple for human creators to make purchases online safely within the limits they have set. It allows for both buyers and sellers to have foundational building blocks needed to participate in agentic commerce with ease and security.
“The Internet is shifting from human-driven browsing to agent-driven commerce, and the infrastructure needs to keep up,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare in a press statement shared by the company.
“When an agent shows up at your door, you need to know who sent it. Cloudflare can give agents a face, a link to the human or organisation that owns them, so that trust, accountability, and real commerce can follow. It’s the identity and payment infrastructure the agentic web needs to function,” Prince explained.
Cloudflare has increasingly been focussed on building products that help in bringing in safer, secure and easier interaction and flow between humans and agents. The cloud connectivity giant has added that the Internet has primarily been designed and built for humans.
However, today the world online is increasingly becoming a hotbed for human and agentic collaborations. There now is a growing number of AI agents, software programmes automatically browsing websites, query APIs, and also AI agents making autonomous payments, Cloudflare believes it is important to build a gateway that supports both agents and humans.
The company stated, when an agent visits a site to buy something or sign up for a free trial, the business on the other end has no reliable way to tell whether it’s a real customer’s assistant or a bad actor gaming the system.
Older tools for detecting bots were built for search crawlers, not agents that transact on behalf of real people and companies. As a result, businesses are stuck choosing between locking everything down or taking their chances. These however do not work at scale.
Pay and Wallets by Cloudflare aims to address the identity and payment problem together. The Cloudflare accounts get a unique web address that works a stable user id across AI agents and humans.
Users then will be able to extend identity to specific agents, so any business receiving a request can see exactly who authorised it. The Cloudflare ‘Account Wallet’ works as a central balance that will be able to manage, receive and hold stable coins. Based on this, users can assign ‘Virtual Wallets’ to individual agents that the agents can spend on online resources.
These Virtual Wallets will have guardrails built in from the start: Users will be free to define a spending cap, an approved merchant list, and even a maximum transaction size the agent cannot exceed on its own.
True to its thesis, Cloudflare has for the past year been working to build products that allow for an effective human and AI collaboration.
