H.E. Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai and Chairman of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University’s (HBMSU) Board of Governors (BOG), headed the 2nd meeting of the university’s BOG for 2017/2018. The meeting held recently in Dubai discussed the three agreements entered into by the university with three government bodies as well as launch of the ‘Entrepreneur Club.’ It was also an opportunity to showcase the university’s efforts to promote smart education, digital transformation within the public sector, and innovation in the country, resulting in the government entities’ higher confidence in the university. Digital transformation, in particular, aims to enhance the government’s performance in line with its mission to adopt smart education in support of the UAE’s shift to a competitive and knowledge-based economy.

Moreover, the board members welcomed the launch of the school of Artificial Intelligence, which was established in anticipation of the demand for the new set of skills required for the future. The school, one of the UAE’s forward-looking initiatives and strategies, will offer Master’s degrees in Robotics, Data Science, and Game Design, in addition to numerous relevant programs and professional diplomas.

H.E. Tamim lauded HBMSU for promoting smart education, innovation, and scientific research through an education system that employs the latest innovative techniques, making it a leading smart education institution in the UAE. He explained that the community and government entities’ high confidence in HBMSU is the result of its persistent efforts and continuous work. This has led to stronger relations with the university so that they, too, can benefit from its training programs in a time when smart education is seen to play a role in the global socio-economic advancement.

He added: “The launch of the school of Artificial Intelligence gives strong impetus to develop and innovate smart learning skills that match the future needs of smart education, as well as establish a solid base for innovation. We are committed to enhancing the education system and using the best creative and smart means to support the country’s comprehensive development process. By doing so, we are building a promising future driven by an innovative educational system that meets the challenges of the modern era. Additionally, we will strengthen our cooperation with all government institutions to support their employees as part of our joint commitment to support human capital development as per the directives of our wise leadership.

The attendees reviewed HBMSU’s agreements with three government entities. The first agreement with Umm al-Quwain Executive Council aims to support the employees of the Umm al-Quwain Government through HMBSU’s professional diploma programs. Its second agreement with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation aims to develop and digitize the Ministry’s initiatives such as its Emiratisation strategy, the labor law, and electronic portal. The third agreement with the Dubai Committee of Military Human Resources seeks to develop an electronic platform for the committee and two electronic courses on human resources law and the law of military pensions and social security benefits.

At the end of the meeting, H.E. Dhahi Khalfan underscored the significance of “Entrepreneurs, Not Job Seekers” principle adopted by HBMSU in which it encourages graduates to become entrepreneurs and run their own projects. HBMSU launched the “Entrepreneurs Club” on February 21, 2018 to foster entrepreneurship and innovation among the university’s students and graduates.
