Experts emphasize prevention is better than cure when it comes to securing internet usage
Research conducted by Kaspersky Lab and B2B International indicates that internet users’ biggest concerns while online are the protection of their privacy and identity, personal data and finances. With as many as 77% of people using devices on different platforms, the need for multiplatform security is on a rise. 48% of users are afraid of losing money in online frauds, 58% fear that someone will get access to their personal information and 605 are alarmed by the thought that cybercriminals can secretly observe them without their consent or knowledge.
According to Kaspersky Lab, about 315,000 new samples of malicious software appear almost every day; no OS can be considered 100% safe. After the detection of the Flashback botnet which included more than 700,000 computers running under OS X, Apple users can no longer argue that their OS is completely safe. Every month Kaspersky Security Network logs over 137,000 new phishing sites aimed at deceiving people into handling over their sensitive personal and financial data.
Users face confusion while trying to protect the various platforms they operate from. Keeping that in view, Kaspersky has been constantly innovating to come up with multi-purpose solutions; the latest from its kitty is the Kaspersky Internet Security- multi-device 2015 designed to protect users of Windows, OS X and Android devices from existing and new threats. Just one license can activate the security on computers, tablets or smart phones (number of devices depends on the purchased license).
Mohammad Amin Hasbini, Senior Security Researcher, Global Research and Analysis Team, MEAT, Kaspersky Lab, says “There are measures that could be taken legally to track attackers, but the damage is already done, in addition to the fact that such measures do not have guaranteed results in terms of attacker identification and prosecution, let alone to stop data theft before it happens. Therefore, the best way to avoid the situation entirely is to prevent it from happening to begin with.”
