The term “Software Asset Management (SAM)” is often misleading, and these are mostly used to cover up audits performed by major software publisher’s. Most of the publisher’s use Software Asset Management as a defensive mechanisim to cover up the audit shock and retain customer satisfaction by showcasing unrealistic short-term achievements. The real value of an effective SAM solution is underestimated and faded away in an effort to tackle audit and achieve the state of compliance.

Software Asset Management exercises are a revenue generation/account harvesting strategy. For the end customer, Software Asset Management eventually turns out to be an expensive short-term exercise which overrules the long-term return on investment.
