As the smart city wave is spreading across Middle East, Ajman is also trying to match pace with rest of the GCC by chalking out well defined plans and a visionary outlook to ensure better services and public convenience. In conversation with Zain Mohammed Al Sharif from Ajman Municipality
Mr. Zain Mohammed Al Sharif, Head of Operations and Technical Support Section, Ajman Municipality was an active participant and a panelist at the IDC IT Forum. The discussion revolved around digital transformation where the members spoke about their organization’s roadmap, opportunities and the need for digitization. Expressing his views on the Smart city initiatives, Mr. Zain said, “Our director Mr. Yousuf AlShaiba has been dreaming of doing bigger projects since 2006. The smart city plan was a small one when we were working to provide smart services to all public parks and libraries which were earlier under Dubai Municipality. It was a big challenge for us since the technology that time was not matured, but now it’s becoming a reality.”
Ajman Municipality has been working to provide services which help the public and contribute to the overall infrastructure. There are many things on the radar for Ajman Municipality, amongst them are health services, parking services, environment services etc. Mr. Zain expresses the need to have equipments which will help in the growth of Ajman and the distribution of these services should be done widely so that the people can benefit from it and that’s the reason Ajman Municipality is looking to have partners on board to bring about innovate and helpful services.
Ajman Municipality states that the vision of a smart city with beneficial services isn’t just a mere promise that the want to make to the public and that’s the reason they always look at partnering with organizations who aim at providing the best rather than just looking to associate with the brand of Ajman Municipality.
“H.H. Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi. Chairman of the Department of Municipal and Planning is extremely optimistic about the projects we take up and as a result we are always motivated to push our limits and contribute much more to the public. We have a big responsibility on our shoulders and it’s not an easy task,” says Mr.Zain.
To get right things in the right place and implement it properly is the biggest challenge according to Mr.Zain. He mentioned during his tenure at Dubai Municipality as Network Infrastructure Manager they built their own man project which connects all the branches with fiber. The project provided them services 24/7 without any issues with Etisalat line.
“There are many opportunities in Ajman. Ajman has a small area and therefore one can build their infrastructure easily like L-type or E-type. In Dubai the area is more and therefore infrastructure challenges are also more, one cannot control it properly due to the widespread area. The size and time frame is different for Ajman and Dubai.”
