Global network infrastructure specialist Siemon is pleased to announce that it will continue its educational programme in the Middle East by participating in a masterclass at this year’s GITEX Technology Week in Dubai.
To be delivered on 08 October and hosted by BICSI, the masterclass entitled ‘Four-Pair PoE: Powering the Future of Intelligent Buildings and the IoT’ will focus on the capabilities of remote power delivery to support intelligent buildings and the Internet of Things (IoT) and provide insight into the cabling considerations for best support of four-pair Power over Ethernet.
According to a forecast by Gartner, the number of connected things in use will reach 14.2 billion this year. Many of these devices today are powered via the same network cabling infrastructure that they are connected to using remote powering technology such as Power over Ethernet (PoE Type 1) or PoE Plus (Type 2). In intelligent buildings, these end devices include LED lights, wireless access points, security cameras and more.
The recent emergence of higher-power delivery applications including IEEE P802.3bt Type 3 60W and Type 4 90W PoE that are now required to power devices like PoE-enabled computers, thin clients and high-performance wireless access points, has significant implications on a building’s network cabling foundations.
In this masterclass, Narender Vasandani, Technical Manager Middle East and India at Siemon, will discuss what designers, installers, and maintainers involved in the implementation of intelligent buildings need to consider when specifying, designing and deploying new cabling infrastructure in order to mitigate the challenges associated with higher power delivery.
Key talking points of his presentation include:
- An overview of the latest remote powering applications
- A summary of the implications of applying remote power over the structured cabling, such as potential damage to connecting hardware, temperature build-up in cabling bundles and associated effects on performance
- Recommendations on cabling infrastructure design, bundles sizes, cabling construction, and grade of cabling for optimal support 60W – 100W remote powering applications
- A TIA TSB-184-A Standards update on “Guidelines for Supporting Power Delivery over Balanced Twisted Pair Cabling”
“Ongoing education and development of industry professionals is a solid part of our work in the Middle East”, says Prem Rodrigues, Sales and Marketing Director for Middle East, India and SAARC at Siemon. “The intelligent buildings sector advances all the time and it requires IT infrastructures that not only meet current but also future needs. In this masterclass, attendees will learn how to properly deploy future-proof networks that are ready to support the latest wave of 60 and 90W remote power technology to support an even greater range of connected devices in the smart building.”
GITEX Technology Week takes place from 06 to 10 October 2019 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The masterclass ‘Four-Pair PoE: Powering the Future of Intelligent Buildings and the IoT’ will be held on 08 October from 09am until 12:30pm at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai C, C1 level, above Sheikh Maktoum Hall.
