SITA has launched SITA eWAS+, an advanced electronic flight bag (EFB) application designed to assist pilots with real-time decision support. Aggregating data from over 10 weather providers and combining it with trajectory, airspace, and airport information, the app offers 4D operational awareness across all flight phases. When integrated with SITA OptiFlight, it allows pilots to evaluate fuel-saving recommendations alongside live atmospheric conditions.
With weather and operational information in a single app, pilots can make faster, more informed decisions at critical moments, such as whether to change altitude to avoid clear-air turbulence, which onboard weather radar cannot detect. Pilots see the information that matters, where and when it matters, rather than having to interpret raw data from separate systems.
“Pilots have access to more data than ever before, but the time they have to make decisions in the cockpit hasn’t changed,” said Albert Dominguez, Head of Apps & Data at SITA for Aircraft. “Pilots will always make the call, but technology needs to keep evolving to support them with the most crucial information. SITA eWAS+ is shaped by feedback from the airlines and pilots we work alongside, and we will keep developing it around the way they fly.”
SITA eWAS+ aggregates data from more than 10 certified weather providers and more than 40 weather products, including but not limited to turbulence, winds, icing and lightning, and combines it with trajectory, airspace and airport information on both a map and a vertical profile. Its 4D operational awareness shows how conditions will develop at each point of the route by the time the aircraft gets there.
Pilots at airlines that also use SITA OptiFlight SITA’s full-flight optimization solution, can weigh its fuel-saving recommendations against the conditions ahead. SITA OptiFlight suggests adjustments to the flight profile to reduce fuel burn and emissions. Because SITA eWAS+ presents each recommendation alongside relevant weather and operational information, pilots have everything they need to assess and act on it across climb, cruise and descent.
