Transforming Digital Experiences with Liferay

Omar Sheliby, Regional Sales Manager at Liferay, explains how the company’s platform enables businesses to create cohesive digital experiences.

Can you give us an overview of Liferay?

We offer a DXP platform, which enhances the user experience. DXP provides our customers with a platform where they can build multiple use cases to serve various audiences within their business cluster. These use cases include simple websites, key services, portals, and also support business-to-business and government-to-government offerings. Additionally, DXP supports business-to-employee (B2E) needs, providing a digital workplace or intranet for all employees across different services, such as HR portals. All of this comes together, utilizing the same content to create a cohesive experience.

Our recent announcement is that we are now available on Google Cloud as both PaaS and SaaS offerings within the cloud data suite. This provides significant traction for our customers who are looking to adopt private cloud solutions. It’s a competitive advantage we offer today, and we are the only DXP platform available on Google Cloud.

Are you leveraging AI in your platform?

We are not an AI vendor, but we have integrated a range of AI capabilities into our platform. This has enabled many interesting use cases, such as supporting content teams. For example, we have integrated an AI engine that allows business users to simply type a keyword or query, and the AI engine automatically generates relevant content. Users can then modify, refine, and publish this content on the go, which greatly enhances efficiency. By incorporating AI in this way, the AI engine acts as an assistant in content development—this is just one of many use cases.

Are public sector entities willing to use a platform that’s available as a PaaS or SaaS offering?

We’ve seen some government entities, whether in the UAE or even in Saudi Arabia, actively using such platforms. With Google Cloud now available in the region, including a data center in Saudi Arabia, data sovereignty can be maintained even within sensitive functions.

What differentiates Liferay from the competition?

We are an open-source platform that gives our customers the power to fully customize it as they wish. There’s no vendor lock-in, so they have complete freedom to modify the platform to meet their needs
