From the moment we wake up until we go to bed, applications have become an integral part of our everyday lives. For example, a typical day might start with checking traffic or routes to work on a traffic app, looking at the weather forecast from the Met Office, and scanning the news headlines. And at this stage, it is not something we are often conscious of — we use our applications on autopilot.

This use of applications is pervasive in every aspect of our daily lives. We use them for everything from banking to sharing jokes with friends, to conducting our daily business interactions. In fact, the business focus on application use is particularly fast-growing, and increasingly application use is on the radar of digitally savvy organisations. In a recent Riverbed survey, 98% of business decision-makers identify the need to optimise digital performance as an essential component to business performance.

Given that our reliance on applications in a business context is significantly increasing, there is a corresponding rise in the importance of real performance.
