Honor unveils smartphone with motorised camera arm and 6,800-nit screen

The Robot Phone builds a 4-degree-of-freedom titanium gimbal into a flagship handset, records 10-bit ARRI LogC3 and tracks its user without being touched. HONOR has not said what it costs or when it ships.

HONOR unveiled the Robot Phone at LEAP, a handset built around a fully motorised mechanical gimbal integrated into the body of the device rather than attached to it. The company positions the product as a new category, combining smartphone hardware with elements of ARRI Image Science and professional cinema workflows.

The gimbal is the structural claim. HONOR says the ultra-compact 4-DoF system, which it calls the Titanium Agile Gimbal, was developed through 60 manufacturing processes, integrates more than 100 precision components and is covered by more than 100 patents.

Against mainstream gimbals, the company reports a 65% reduction in overall system size and a 200% increase in structural strength. The 2.6g titanium gimbal motor supports control speeds up to 360° per second, and the flip motor delivers a torque density of 120 N·m/L.

Imaging is anchored by a dual 200MP rear system, the 200MP Agile Gimbal main camera uses a 1/1.28-inch sensor at f/1.6 and supports 10-bit ARRI LogC3 recording in ARRI CINEMA mode, paired with a 200MP periscope telephoto on a 1/1.4-inch sensor with 2.7x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide with a 122° field of view.

The pipeline handles noise reduction earlier in the RAW domain, processes in 14-bit 4:4:4 and outputs 10-bit LogC3 and 4:2:2 video. HONOR reports an 8 dB improvement in video signal-to-noise ratio from AI noise reduction and support for up to 14 stops of dynamic range through its H1 image chip. ARRI Looks can be previewed live, and footage can be taken into DaVinci Resolve with ARRI LUTs applied directly.

The device is the first product under HONOR’s Cinematic Imaging Partnership with ARRI, and the company says the technologies developed through it will appear again in the forthcoming Magic9 series.

Motion control is where the hardware earns its name. Running on MagicOS, YOYO Robot Mode combines multimodal perception, contextual understanding, gesture recognition and physical movement. AI subject tracking and voice source localisation let the camera pan and tilt to keep the user in frame during vlogging, live-streaming or video calls, and gesture controls deploy the camera arm without physical contact. Cinematic movement modes include Tilt Lock, First Person View, FPV Vertical and AI SpinShot. An open Agent Skills interface allows third-party developers to build on the gimbal, perception and embodied-interaction capabilities, which is the more consequential detail for anyone assessing whether this becomes a category or stays a single device.

The handset runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform with a custom cooling system, a 7,060mAh silicon-carbon battery, 120W wired and 50W wireless charging, and a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display with adaptive 1 to 120Hz refresh, 4320Hz PWM dimming and peak brightness of 6,800 nits.
