How do you advocate for diversity in team composition?
Advocating for diversity in team compositions starts with recognizing the tremendous value that diverse perspectives bring to innovations, creativity, and problem-solving. First, its important to lead by example – by creating an inclusive culture that brings together diverse voices that are not only present but also heard , valued and respected. When hiring , ensure that diversity is a priority when recruiting new team members and implement a hiring process that reduces unconscious bias.
What systemic changes would most benefit women in the tech industry?
Systematic changes that would most benefit women in tech would include providing mentorship / leadership programs to connect women with other senior leaders to guide them with their career growth. Establish pay equity and ensuring that women are paid fairly for equal work. Offer the flexibility of working hours , remote work options to support women in balancing work-life responsibilities. Foster an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives are included.
What advice would you give to women negotiating work-life balance in high-pressure roles?
In high pressure roles, achieving work-life balance can be incredibly challenging but not impossible! My advice is to start understanding that balance does not necessarily mean equal time between work and personal, but rather investing time in prioritizing what really matters to be able to balance between work and personal life. It is also important to be transparent and communicative to set expectations ahead , say no when needed to allow you to priorities the most important tasks and do reach out for support when you feel you need help delegating some tasks.
How can technology itself promote gender equality?
Technology has the incredible power to drive social change, and when used intentionally, it can be a significant force in promoting gender equality. One of the key ways tech can support gender equality is providing access to education and opportunities. Digital platforms allow women , especially those that are underserved to access resources, learn new skills regardless of where their geographies lies. The use of social media platforms serves as a powerful tool to amplify women’s voices and promote awareness.
