AVEVA will demonstrate how its digital thread technology integrates data across the mining value chain at the Egypt Mining Forum. As Egypt aims to increase mining’s contribution to GDP to 6% by 2030, AVEVA’s solutions address critical industry challenges, including rising labour costs, resource depletion, and the transition to net-zero operations through integrated industrial intelligence.

Egypt is targeting an increase in mining’s contribution to the national GDP from well under 1% today to around 5–6% by 2030, as part of wider sector reforms and Egypt Vision 2030. This ambition is supported by the government’s recent decision to restructure and create an economic entity for the mining sector, a move intended to streamline investment and attract new capital into the sector. Exploration opportunities for gold, phosphate and other minerals are being opened up under an open-sector mining model, with the government pressing for greater domestic processing to add value before export. This shift, from extraction toward integrated and value-added production, depends on the kind of end-to-end operational visibility that AVEVA will demonstrate at the forum.

Challenges in the MMM sector:

Companies are grappling with rising labor, production and energy costs, which are squeezing margins and hindering new project development. Additionally, a shortage of skilled workers, exacerbated by an aging workforce, poses a significant challenge as the industry strives to attract talent to support its digital transformation and sustainability agendas. Productivity and Rising Costs

Resource depletion and supply chain disruptions are significantly impacting the industry. Declining ore grades are increasing extraction costs, while rising exploration costs and fewer discoveries put pressure on the industry to innovate in extracting and optimizing critical minerals and metals. Simultaneously, companies face unprecedented price volatility and disruptions due to geopolitical tensions. Resource Depletion and Raw Materials Supply

Metals and mineral producers are under pressure from investors to balance growth with capital discipline. They need to allocate capital wisely, manage costs effectively, and deliver returns to shareholders. Balancing Growth with Capital Discipline.

Metals and mineral producers face intense pressure to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, necessitating transformation in operations, investments in renewable energy, and adoption of new technologies. Simultaneously, companies must address increasing scrutiny from communities and governments regarding their environmental and social impacts to build trust and maintain their social license to operate. Sustainability and Energy Management

The industry is rapidly adopting new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and robotics. This transformation requires significant investment and a skilled workforce.

From extraction to recycling, AVEVA’s digital solutions maximize agility and productivity, while ensuring safety and sustainable practices, through trusted insights. By harnessing trusted insight and ingenuity – your Industrial Intelligence – you can open up new avenues for growth, drive decarbonization, and reshape the future for the mine-to-materials industry.
