Nonprofit Engage Together has partnered with Qlik and Pomerol Partners to utilise data analytics in the fight against human trafficking. By unifying fragmented data, the collaboration has halved community assessment timelines and significantly increased victim identification through improved visibility and targeted training.

Released in conjunction with UN World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the findings highlight how connected data helps communities overcome fragmented information and siloed efforts, strengthen identification and early intervention strategies, and coordinate more effective anti-trafficking responses and care.

Engage Together, the nonprofit founded by human rights lawyer Ashleigh Chapman, works with offices of attorneys general offices, law enforcement agencies, and local anti-trafficking task forces to help communities understand why trafficking occurs and how to respond more effectively. To modernize its approach, the organization partnered with Pomerol Partners, whose data integration and analytics expertise, help unify fragmented public and private data into a single actionable view for communities.

Using Qlik, Engage Together combines qualitative and quantitative data from government agencies, nonprofits, public sources, and community organizations into a unified view that enables local leaders, investigators, policymakers, and service providers to identify risks, allocate resources, and coordinate action. By validating and connecting data from disparate sources, Engage Together is also building the trusted data foundation needed to responsibly leverage AI in the future, helping communities surface patterns faster, generate deeper insights, and accelerate responses to human trafficking.

“My goal is to save millions of lives before we’re done. There is no reason why we can’t, in this day and age, with this level of data, and with a partner like Qlik,” shared Ashleigh Chapman, Founder of Engage Together. “We can go after it all to make sure this is never someone’s story.”

The partnership’s impact extends well beyond operational efficiency. In one community, data analysis revealed that local law enforcement and service providers needed additional training to recognize trafficking indicators. After targeted interventions informed by data analytics, victim identifications increased from two in one year to more than 600 the next, reflecting dramatically improved recognition rather than increased trafficking activity.

In North Texas, Engage Together analyzed trafficking data across 17 counties, producing evidence that informed statewide policy recommendations while helping communities identify service gaps and prioritize resources for survivors. In Alabama, data-driven insights revealed the need to mobilize healthcare providers to join the fight in high-risk communities across the state, and as a result, efforts are now underway to equip healthcare providers in these targeted areas to recognize and respond to human trafficking alongside the statewide task force.

Impact at a Glance

  • Community assessment timelines reduced from 18 months to 9 months
  • Victim identifications increased from 2 to more than 600 in one community after targeted training addressed recognition gaps
  • Survivor employment initiative has supported more than 1,000 graduates with a reported 95% success rate
  • Regional analysis across 17 Texas counties informed statewide policy recommendations
  • National and international expansions underway, with projects in many more states across the U.S., as well as the Philippines and India

“When organizations can connect and trust data that was previously isolated across agencies, they gain the visibility needed to make faster, more informed decisions,” said Julie Kae, VP of Sustainability and Executive Director of Qlik.org. “Trusted data improves outcomes today while creating a foundation for responsible AI that can help organizations like Engage Together drive even greater impact in the future.”
