Siemon empowers iColo with advanced data center solutions in Africa

Siemon has announces its collaboration with iColo, a Digital Realty Company, to transform data center capabilities in Kenya and Mozambique. This partnership leverages Siemon’s cutting-edge solutions to support iColo’s mission of delivering world-class, carrier-neutral colocation services across East Africa.

Meeting the growing demand for connectivity

With increasing demand for reliable and scalable data center infrastructure in the region, iColo sought to enhance its facilities in Nairobi and Mombasa. These hubs, spanning over 2,600 sqm, cater to diverse customers, including telecom carriers, ISPs, IT providers, and enterprises. Mombasa, strategically located as a connectivity hub due to subsea cable landings, and Nairobi, serving enterprise businesses, represent iColo’s commitment to enabling regional and international connectivity.

iColo faced the challenge of creating a scalable, high-performance interconnect infrastructure that could handle rapid data traffic growth while maintaining reliability and flexibility. With technologies including AI and machine learning driving increased data center demands, it was essential for iColo to deploy future-proof solutions that met international standards.

Following a rigorous evaluation process, iColo selected Siemon for its superior product performance, ease of installation, and exceptional local technical support. Key solutions deployed comprise plug and play fiber and copper cabling including RazorCore™ fiber trunks, LC BladePatch® and fiber combo panels for seamless, high-speed connectivity as well as Siemon’s Z-MAX® shielded copper trunks and combo panel adapters for robust, low-latency connections. iColo also chose Siemon’s efficient cable management systems that are optimized for Meet-Me rooms and offer superior organization and performance. For streamlined data center management, cable tray racks (CTR) and V-series cabinets were deployed.

Implementation success

The collaboration began in 2017, and since then, Siemon’s solutions have been integral to iColo’s continued expansions. From Mombasa to Nairobi, these solutions have enabled iColo to deliver carrier-neutral connectivity, ensuring customers can exchange data with minimal latency. Deploying Siemon’s solutions, iColo benefits from flawless connectivity with zero failure rates, improved cable management and reduced installation times and a scalable infrastructure that accommodates evolving customer needs and technological advancements.

“Siemon has been a valuable partner throughout our journey. Their products are reliable, and their technical support is always timely,” said, Ranjith Cherickel CEO and founder of iColo. This collaboration underscores Siemon’s commitment to empowering businesses with innovative, tailored solutions.
